Good news this holiday season for residents in Yishun and Sembawang comes in the form of a new bus service.
Beginning this December, a new operator known as Advance Coach will operate AC7, a brand-new premium public bus service between Yishun Interchange in Singapore, and Kotaraya II Terminal in Johor Bahru. The entrance of AC7 into the cross-border bus services sector comes at a time when travellers crossing between the two points are reaching new record numbers.
Advance Coach is the second private operator to have been given the licence to operate the service, 3 months after the introduction of Transtar Cross Border services TS1 and TS8 in September. These bus services are part of a landmark deal signed between leaders of Singapore and Malaysia during a retreat held earlier in 2010. The package will see both countries introducing a total of 8 new bus services, serving points like Yishun, Boon Lay, Changi Airport and the 2 Integrated Resorts in Singapore, with Larkin and Kotaraya II (Pasar Bakti) in Johor Bahru.
Only a few operating details of the new service AC7 is available at the moment. As stated on the poster which can be found at Yishun Interchange, service AC7 is expected to operate between 5.45am and 11.30pm from Yishun Interchange, and between 5am and 11.50pm from Kotaraya II Terminal. Frequency is published at 20 minutes per bus. Passengers are expected to pay a flat fee of S$2 regardless of the boarding points in Singapore, and a low, low price of only RM2 from Johor Bahru. To make it more convenient for passengers, they may opt to pay using the EZLink card, a contactless smart card currently in use on public transport systems in Singapore.
